Objective: to update the existing knowledge on the main instruments used to assess the levels of Burnout Syndrome in university students. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted between January and June 2021. The databases consulted were Medline through Pubmed, Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus and PsycoINFO, in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The positioning guidelines of the PRISMA Declaration were followed to assist in the methodological design of this study. Results: Of the selected articles, 6 specific instruments were found that have assessed SB in students at different times and on different bases. Two three-dimensional: the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS), one two-dimensional: the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory student version (OLBI-S) and 3 unidimensional: the Unidimensional Student Burnout Scale (EUBE); the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory student version and the Emotional Fatigue Scale (ECE). In the largest number of these 1547 the MBI-SS is used to assess levels of SB in university students (39.0%). Then the ECE (23.0%) and the EUBE (17.0%) and instruments such as the CBI-S (3.7%) and the OLBI-S (1.8%) have been applied very little. Conclusions: Of all the instruments, the most widely used and validated is the three-dimensional MBI-SS.
